Standard to-do apps make checking off tasks frictionless. For the DEV April Fools Challenge, the problem was to design a working task manager that turns task completion into a high-stakes adversarial game.
Gated task completion behind Expert Minesweeper where hitting a mine multiplies tasks 20×.
Created 'Proof of Work: The To-Do List of Infinite Regret' in React with a custom Entropy Engine that gates task completion behind Expert Minesweeper, multiplies failed tasks 20×, and includes an HTTP 418 'I'm a Teapot' state.
How I tested it
Verified the 20× task duplication arithmetic on mine triggers, tested recursive board resets, and confirmed the 418 Teapot state renders cleanly without freezing the browser tab.
